Saeid Taghavi

Next up in our exposé of the current breed of MSPI students, we meet Saeid Taghavi. Saeid is in the final year of the Master’s program in Sustainable Product-Service System Innovation.

Who are you?

My name is Saeid Taghavi

Where do you come from?

I come from Iran.

Where did you do your bachelor degree?

I did my bachelor degree in mechanical engineering program in Azad University in Iran.

Why did you choose MSPI and BTH?

I found MSPI program interesting since it is a project-based program in which you can challenge with interesting topics. I also talked with my friends who already had been in this program in BTH which led me finally to choose this program in BTH.

How are you finding the MSPI experience and your time at BTH so far?

I found MSPI experience as a complement to my previous studies in mechanical engineering since what I have learnt so was mostly dealing with academic assignments, formula, simulations which were focusing on specified problems but now in MSPI I had the chance to get an overview of running different projects and see the big picture. I also must say that sustainability courses were a good and interesting experience I had in this program.

What has been your favorite course so far, and why?

My favorite course was Design Thinking since it was basically the first time I had the chance to experience the whole process of a PSS project from initiation to implementation in this program. There were also other courses such as the Strategic Management for Sustainability in which I could have such experience but those courses were focusing mostly on sustainability and not on PSS.

The key areas for the program is Sustainability/sustainable development, Product-service systems and Innovation. How do you think engineers can benefit from mastering these perspectives?

The value which is inherently embedded in product development is something that every engineer should consider.

What is the main challenge in this field in the future?

It is going to be finding a good job.

What do you see as essential developments for society relating to this field in the future?

I think sustainability is the topic which is going to be more focused in general in next years.

How would you like change the program for the better?

I would like to have more projects focusing on mechanical engineering since the program description is bringing up this field as a kind of perquisite for the MSPI-program, so I expect to have the program projects more focused on this in general.

What would recommend to future students interested in these topics?

I recommend them to prepare themselves for an interesting program which can be helpful for them to get prepared for their future professional lives.
